Ruichan’s dog and Kintoki

chrysanthemums, but not in the rain…

I have borrowed the original photo from Rui’s blog with her permission. FYI she has blogs both in Japanese and English on Typepad. I hope she likes it. (but I am sure the real dog is a lot cuter…^^) The photo was bit small so this time I didn’t enlarge it too much.

I tried painting a cat, too, she’s a charming cat named Kintoki which sounds like a boy’s name but she’s a girl. Her fur is very lovely milk tea color but I couldn’t capture it in this painting, sometimes it happens that the painting just refuses to start talking to me.

Teenager #2

Well, finished painting my son.

OIL ON CANVAS 18 x 18

I loved the feeling of looking at my own son as a total stranger. I have spent two days to paint him (well, some hours per day :-), and while painting, I was maybe sometimes focusing on the degree of his chin, or evaluating the muscle, or, talking to myself “oops lips got too thick”, or, “well he’d been always fond of holding some kind of sticks (this stick is a 白蝋杆棍) all the time ever since he was little – this must be from his father’s blood”, or something like that (lol) , I have enjoyed every moments of those.

This painting is supposed to be set side by side with the previously painted “teenager” piece. The small personal exhibition of my artworks will be held next December and both will be displayed there  😉

Holding pond

It’s Saturday! I didn’t want to do any work but wanted to get something done. I already finished sewing a flower printed skirt for my friend’s daughter :-), so I went outside and decided to paint a pond near my house. This should be a holding pond for farming, I’m not sure, and there must be some kind of fish in it because I see a few people fishing there almost everyday.

It is called “百々目堰” (Dodome-seki).

White cat

Boo-chan is a white cat who belongs to my neigbour. He barely stays his home and prefers to stay outside most of the time, no matter how severe the climate is. He has had scared me a few times by trying to get into (ya at least it sounded like it) my house in midnight, like when typhoon was hitting, or snowing in the winter. In the beginning I was so worried and assumed he might be having trouble getting into his house and needed shelter, and stupidly opened my window trying to get him in getting myself soaked by the rain. But he wouldn’t come in but just kept crying. I even tried to grab and drag him into, but he didn’t let me! I still don’t understand but after I learned that he’s just such kind of a cat, I just say hi to him when I see him, occasionally feed him, but leave him alone. Oh, and his real name is “Jin (仁)”. I never tell the neigbour how funny it sounds as a cat’s name.

Had so much fun painting a young man

It had been like high-school themed last week. I have asked my son’s friend to model when he came over. I was too shy about it (LOL) so I ASKED my son to ASK him about it but he just told me to ask myself because he didn’t think it was a big deal. So I did. Well, anyway, here is the finished painting.

                                                                             oil on canvas, 18″ x 18″ SOLD

There was another event for us last weekend. My son’s classmate has been working hard to be a comedian. He has applied for this “High school Manzai 2010″(comic dialogue contest?) and won the first place in Kanto area, and he was going to perform in Shinjuku Lumine the Yoshimoto theatre for the final, and surprisingly, not only my son but I got invited. The show was very good and I enjoyed those fresh comedians. (If you live in Japan, it is coming up on ASAHI TV on October 10th, 2:00 afternoon. I am writing this here so that I won’t forget 🙂 I should be in it for at least 1 second! Scary…..

He and his mate didn’t win the first place unfortunately, but they got the jury’s special award which is simply great!!!

It is fun to have a teenage kid. Very exciting sometimes.

Fairy, imaginary but realistic

Wow it seems like long time since my last update on Vox! I guess the changes in one’s life is necessary sometimes but I don’t like to face to the fact  that I CAN NOT FIGURE THINGS OUT as quick as I used to be able to! Thus I prefer to stick to the  same older(traditional) ways nowadays, through that way, I now understand why my parents refused to do certain things even if the people around them push them to do, before. However I still have a limited passion to make something, and when it comes to painting I want to keep trying, whatsoever.

So here is “The Fairy”. There is a model for this painting (of course, because I can’t make up something from none) and she said she’d like to see the finished painting, I hope she likes how it came out.

I have framed this painting because the frame I had for a long time needed something to go together with it. Now it is settled, I think.  (But I will retake the photo in the daylight)

There is another painting in different version. Small, and because I varnished it already it is shiny!
